Virginia State Board of Immigration was established by the Immigration Bill adopted by the General Assembly in 1873. The Governor presided over the Board that included, according to the act of Mar. 2, 1875 Speaker of the House, Secretary of the Commonwealth, and the Auditor of Public Accounts, with the Register of the Land Office designated Secretary to the Board. In 1879, the Board was replaced with the Bureau of Immigration of Virginia.
