Hermann Becks was born in Wesel am Rhine, Germany, in 1897; received medical training at Univ. of Rostock in Germany, and DDS from UC Berkeley, 1933; known for his research and publications in dentistry and experimental biology; chairman, Oral Biology Dept. at UCSF School of Dentistry; awarded Fauchard Medal for contributions to oral medicine, 1958.
