Edwin Gilbert Michaelian (1906-1983) held office as Westchester County Executive from 1958 to 1973. He was born in New York City and graduated from Yale University (1929). After graduation he entered business as a rug importer. In 1939 he was elected a Councilman for the city of White Plains. He served until 1943 when he resigned to become a Naval Officer (1943-1945). After World War II Michaaelian was again elected a Councilman (1947-1949) and then Mayor of White Plains (1950-1958), a position he held until he was elected County Executive. Following his tenure as County Executive, Michaelian founded, and directed until his death in 1983, Pace University's Institute for Sub/Urban Governance.
