The Montana Leather Company was established in Butte, Montana at 124 S. Main Street around 1918, by the MacPherson family. The Company remained a family business throughout its existence. Elsa MacPherson was the first company president, with John MacPherson as the Secretary-Treasurer. The Company began by specializing in wholesale leather, shoe machinery, and shoe findings. They later expanded into saddle hardware, saddles, and other riding equipment. The last President and General Manager was Douglas MacPherson. The Company closed its Butte store in 1987.
