Lloyd M. Scofield (1897-1969), a mining engineer and geologist, was an expert on iron ore deposits and the mineral resources surrounding Lake Superior. He worked for Pickands Mather & Company from 1922-1936 in the Gogebic and Marquette ranges of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. From 1936-1943 he worked for Calumet and Hecla Consolidated Copper Company in the Michigan Copper District and rejoined Pickands Mather in 1943, working in their Duluth, Minnesota, office. From 1954 until his death in 1969, Scofield was a consulting mining geologist with an international clientele. He was an advisor to the Peruvian government through the Corporación Peruana del Santa and was a mineral reserve appraiser for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
