Variant namesBorn in Glasgow, Scotland, October 6, 1744; came to Canada & entered trade, ca. 1759; was shareholder of the N.W. Co.; settled in Montreal in fur trade, in Co. with Isaac Todd; was very successful in business & at his death was reputed as the wealthiest man in Canada; died at Montreal, Dec. 19, 1813.
