Tompkins County (N.Y.)
Nutrition for the Elderly Program was started in 1973 under Title VII. The program was intended to provide one third of the day's nutrients in a relaxed social setting, especially for those who live alone or find it hard to prepare meals. Cooperative Extension was directed to initiate the program provided that control be transferred to the Office for the Aging when it opened. The Office for the Aging was established in 1975 and in 1976 the Salvation Army contracted for the Title VII program. In 1987, "Foodnet" began operating the nutrition program.
