J. Howard Stegner came to Spokane Falls with his parents who settled in the Trent area in 1890. Stegner worked for the Northern Pacific Railway for 31 years. His retirement was occupied with activities reflecting his interests in local history. He authored articles for the Valley Herald, established a small museum in the basement of his home, was a member of the Spokane County Pioneers, and was one-time president of the Sons and Daughters of Washington Pioneers.
