Poet, playwright, novelist, and journalist. Born Oct. 15, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. Received B.A. from Univ. of Texas, El Paso ‪(‬1975‪)‬, M.F.A. from Univ. of California, San Diego ‪(‬1979‪)‬, and Ph.D. from Univ. of Texas at Austin ‪(‬1987‪)‬. Several of this well-known Mexican American playwright's works have been published, and both his published and unpublished works are frequently produced. Among his best-known plays are The many deaths of Danny Rosales, El jardín, and Johnny Tenorio . Has taught at the university level since 1979.
