Poet, playwright, novelist, and journalist. Born Oct. 15, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. Received B.A. from Univ. of Texas, El Paso (1975), M.F.A. from Univ. of California, San Diego (1979), and Ph.D. from Univ. of Texas at Austin (1987). Several of this well-known Mexican American playwright's works have been published, and both his published and unpublished works are frequently produced. Among his best-known plays are The many deaths of Danny Rosales, El jardín, and Johnny Tenorio . Has taught at the university level since 1979.
