Ambrose Pratt was a novelist, journalist and businessman and was dedicated to the protection of Australian flora and fauna. He was president of the Royal Zoological Society of Victoria for several years.

Author of about 30 novels, the Centenary History of Victoria (1934), a biography of David Syme (1908), and two works on natural history: The lore of the lyrebird (1933), and The call of the koala (1937). President of the Royal Zoological Society of Victoria for several years.
