Noble, Samuel, 1834-1888.

The Noble family owned iron foundries in Rome, Georgia, and Cherokee County, Alabama. Noble and several business partners founded the Woodstock Iron Company in Calhoun County, Alabama, in 1872. The company town which developed around the foundry was named Anniston in 1873 and was opened to outside investment in 1883. Noble helped to organize many city services and institutions, including its newspaper, the Anniston Hot Blast, and Grace Episcopal Church.
