Butrus al-Bustani was a publisher and journalist from Lebanon. He established and published the educational, historical, literary and scientific magazine al-Jinān ('Gardens') from 1870-1874. Following the success of al-Jinān he established the weekly magazine al-Janān ('Garden' or 'Paradise'), and followed this with a third publication in 1870, called al-Junāyna ('Little Garden'). His son, Salim al-Bustani, was the editor of al-Jinān.

He also published the first modern Arabic dictionary (Muhit al-wataniyya, 1870) and played a key role in establishing the first moden multivolume Arabic encyclopedia (Da'irat al-ma'arif).
