Woman's Christian Temperance Union (Orwell, N.Y.)
The National Woman's Christian Temperance Union was organized in 1874 to endorse prohibition and promote Christian beliefs. By the beginning of the 20th century the W.C.T.U. expanded their objectives and added the issue of women voting to their agenda. From the 1940's to the 1970's the W.C.T.U. focused their energies upon helping those with chemical dependencies and educating children on Christian morals.
