Harriet Evelyn Allison was born on 26 January 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of David Allison, a calico printers' salesman, who died in 1907. She attended the University of Glasgow between 1906 and 1910. She studied Latin and Mathematics 1906-1907; Chemistry, Practical Chemistry and Natural Philosophy 1907-1908; Zoology, Practical Zoology, Botany Advanced, Botany lab and Geology 1908-1909; Geology and Minerology(11), Botany (advanced), Zoology (advanced) 1909-1910. She graduated in November 1910 with a BSc in Pure Science, specialising in Geology, Zoology and Botany. She was a Carnegie Research Scholar at Glasgow University in 1911. By 1925 she was a student at The Training College, Bingley, Yorkshire and a lecturer there from c1926-1950. She died c 1985 .
