Artist, musician, and violin expert; invented three stringed instruments (vilonia, vilon, vilono) to fill the voicing gaps he believed existed between the violin, cello, and bass violin in order to enrich the sound of the string ensemble. He demonstrated the instruments widely in a string quintet which included his son, Jean Dautrich, and wife Helene Halabe Dautrich. Resident of Torrington, Conn.; Born in Germany and apprenticed as a boy to be a cabinet maker. In 1896 came to the U.S., with an older sister. AFter studying art at various places around the U.S., took up the building and repairing violins. After his death in 1942, his wife and son settled in Litchfield, Conn.
