Mary Long was born in Guthrie, Kentucky in 1941. A long-time member of the Georgia Nurses Association, Long was particularly interested in women's reproductive rights, and appeared as one of the plaintiffs in the Georgia abortion case Doe v. Bolton. She was a member of the Women's Political Caucus and participated in efforts to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in Georgia. In 1996 Long received the YWCA 13th Anniversary Salute to Women of Achievement award.
