Originally from Greensboro, VT, William Barrington was an outstanding varsity track athlete, capturing first place in the mile and half-mile in the 1924 Vermont state championship and earning first in the mile and second in the half-mile in the 1924 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association meet. He captained the 1925 Norwich University track team and served as a captain in the corps of cadets as well. For many years, he served in the Vermont and, later, Massachusetts State Guard. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and served in the Reserves until 1957. During the war, Barrington primarily served in training and technical service functions in the United States. Following the war, he held a variety of management positions in the automotive business before retiring as general manager of Carparts Inc. of Springfield, MA. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Holyoke, MA. He married Mary Henderson and the couple had two sons, David Barrington (class of 1959) and Donald Barrington (class of 1965), both of whom attended Norwich University.
