Carter, Mary Ryan, 1930-

A graduate of Manhattanville College, Carter studied voice at the Pius XII Institute in Florence, Italy, where she and Sister Margaret W. McCarthy shared a room. Carter gave concerts in the New York metropolitan area, taught music at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J., and served as director of the Brookdale Creative Arts Camp at the college. She married J. Howard Carter, a businessman; they had four children and were later divorced. As a Catholic laywoman, Carter became very involved in pastoral counseling.
