Richards, A.G. (Gerald), 1921-

Gerald Richards was born in Calgary. After graduating from high school in 1937, he started work at The Calgary Herald. In February 1940 he joined the Calgary Highlanders and was sent to England later in the year. He returned to Canada in 1942 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant, taking his training at the Gordon Head Training Camp, Victoria B.C. He was sent back to England in 1943 and was in several other battalions. Later that year he went to Algeria with the P.P.C.L.I., and then to Sicily and Italy. He was wounded at Ortona and spent his recovery in England and Canada. After the war, he studied medicine and became a doctor of internal medicine.
