McTyeire Institute (McKenzie, Tenn.)

Caledonia College began as a boarding school in 1858 and was chartered in 1860. The school was forced to close and remain closed for the duration of the Civil War. It was reorganized in 1867 in McKenzie, Tennessee and was chartered by the State of Tennessee as McKenzie College in 1871. In 1882 the name was officially changed to McTyeire Institute under the direction of the Methodist Church. It was known as a four-year training school for colleges, and was fully accredited by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools.
