Maj. Gen. John W. Naylor (1896-1958) was born in Fort Worth in 1896. He was the oil editor with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1923 until 1944. He then became an independent oil operator. He started his military career at the age of 14 when he joined the 4th Texas Infantry. He served in World War I with the 90th division. He served on staff in Washington D.C. during World War II. After the war, he became assistant division commander of the Texas National Guard's 49th Armored Division. He was interested in Genealogy and History. He was elected as the first president of the Friends of the Fort Worth Library and was also president of the Tarrant County Historical Society. He died on January 31, 1958.
