Alice Eley Jones of Murfreesboro, N.C., is a writer and historian, specializing in North Carolina and African American history. She taught history at North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., from 1987 to 1992. In 1992, she began a history consulting business called Historically Speaking and, in 2002, began a publishing company, Minnie Troy Publishers. In 2002, Jones's book Hertford County, North Carolina was released. Jones collected much material for that book, requesting that anyone with materials relating to the county contribute them for archival preservation. Her other major works include the 2004 publications Within the Hope Plantation Household: A Cultural History of Bertie County 1550-1828 and Carpentry and Woodworking Tools of Hope Plantation .
