Herbert Horton Rountree (1921-1998), a native of Farmville, N.C., graduated from the University of North Carolina. He was commissioner of Farmville, N.C., and assistant attorney general for North Carolina. During his service in the North Carolina General Assembly (1967-1980), he was Speaker Pro Tempore of the House and a member of the Advisory Budget Committee; Joint Committee on Government Operation; Legislative Services Committee; House Committee on Congressional Redistricting; House Committee on Appropriations - Base Budget; Committee on Sentencing, Criminal Punishment, and Rehabilitation; and the Health Manpower Study Committee. Rountree later served as a district judge in North Carolina.
