William Henry Hare (b. 1866) worked as a newspaper correspondent, merchant, telegraph operator, and rural mail carrier; W.H. Hare sold groceries, hardware, and general merchandise in stores in two Midlands counties: as W.H. Hare and Company in Delmar, S.C., then a part of Edgefield County [after 1895, Saluda County]; and, in partnership with J.O. Eargle, at Caughman's Post Office in Leesville (Lexington County, S.C.).
Hare and Eargle published various newspapers, including the Leesville News, a weekly paper created in April 1906 by the merger of Our News Letter [Summit, S.C.] and the Leesville Sun; the Leesville News merged with the Batesburg Advocate in Nov. 1911.
