Hide Profile

The Central of Georgia Railway, formed from its predecessor, The Central Railroad and Banking Company of Georgia in 1895 was a dominant force in the economic life of Georgia and parts of Alabama through the mid-twentieth century. Through its many branch and subsidiary lines, land holding companies, and agricultural experimentation, it controlled much of the region's transportation and was a strong influence in the rural development of the area.

(Cont.) The Macon Terminal Company was incorporated on July 9, 1914 in Macon, Georgia for the purpose of contructing, equipping, maintaining and operating a railroad in Macon. The terminal itself was to be constructed under an agreement between the Macon Terminal Company and the City of Macon. By 1915, the Southern Railway Company, the Central of Georgia Railway, and the Georgia Southern and Florida Railway Company owned the majority interest and jointly controlled the Macon Terminal Company.
