John A. Jones was Tazewell County Circuit Court clerk, 1837-1857. He became a lawyer, and in 1861 Pres. Lincoln appointed him Superintendent of Commercial Statistics in Washington, D.C. His father, Edward Jones was appointed chief clerk at the U.S. Treasury Dept. by Alexander Hamilton and served in that position until the Jackson administration.
