The Board of Parks and Historic Memorials was created in 1949 (Ch. 25353, Laws) to administer and control the operation and development of the state parks and historic sites of Florida. It assumed the duties of the Florida Park Service (1935, Ch. 17025, Laws). In 1969, its functions were transferred to the Division of Recreation and Parks, Dept. of Natural Resources (Ch. 69-106, Laws).
