Hide Profile

Yoshihiro Hattori was a Japanese exchange student living with the Haymaker family of Baton Rouge. In October 1992, Yoshi, confused about the address of a party, mistakenly knocked on the door of the Peairs family. Rodney Peairs shot and killed Yoshi.

This event sparked an international incident and triggered a push for greater gun control, including a petition drive in both the U.S. and Japan.

The killing of his host-son spurred Richard Haymaker to become a leading social activist in the area of gun control and violence prevention.
