United States. Air Force. Alaskan Air Command. Office of History
The Alaskan Air Force was established in 1942 under the control of the Western Defense Command. The name was soon changed to the Eleventh Air Force, which continued until 1945, when the Alaskan Air Command was established. During World War II, the Eleventh Air Force was responsible for the defense of Alaska.
