J.W.G. MacEwan graduated from OAC in 1926 and received his M.S. degree from Iowa State College in 1928. He then became a faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan and in 1946 was appointed Dean of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. He resigned in 1951 and was elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1955, becoming leader of the Opposition. He was a Calgary alderman for 10 years, mayor of Calgary from 1963-1966, and Lieutenant Governor of Alberta from 1966-1974. G. MacEwan then devoted most of his time to writing and public service. More than half of his 55 published books were written after he was 80.
