Phipps family.
The Phipps family fortune was founded by Henry Phipps jr., who was a partner with Andrew Carnegie in the steel industry in Pittsburgh. Westbury House and Old Westbury Gardens were built by John S. Phipps (eldest son of Henry) and his wife, Margarita Grace Phipps.
