Gaffney, Michael, 1775-1854
Michael Gaffney (1775-1854) of Ireland came to America in 1797, and spent a short while in upstate New York in 1799, and Charleston, S.C., in 1800, before moving to Union County, S.C., eventually settling at the present site of Gaffney, S.C., in 1802, as a merchant. He organized a company of militia and saw service in 1814.
