Robert E. Wilson was drafted into the United States (U.S.) Army from Buffalo, New York, in February 1951. He completed his basic training at Camp Chaffee, near Fort Smith, Arkansas. Wilson arrived in Japan in July 1951, and was assigned to the radio and teletype school at Eta Jima Specialty School near Kure, Japan. In December 1951, he was sent to Korea. Wilson was assigned to the Korean Military Advisory Group (KMAG), and served as a radio operator with Headquarters, 2nd Republic of Korea (ROK) Division. He rotated to the U.S. in August 1952. Wilson was discharged from the U.S. Army in November 1952 at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.
