Leroy Donald was born August 23, 1935, in New Albany, Mississippi. He graduated from high school in El Dorado, Arkansas, and worked as a newspaper reporter while studying to be a teacher. He came to work for the Arkansas Gazette in 1959 and served for a time as state editor, eventually focusing on business reporting. Beginning in 1968, he was the producer and often the director of the Farkleberry Follies, a program of political satire produced in alternating years by the Society of Professional Journalists. Donald died in July 2009 at the age of 73.
