Lewis Malone Ayer (1769-1863) was a planter of Barnwell District, S.C.; member of S.C. House, 1806-1815; member of S.C. Senate, 1818-1821; member of Nullification Convention, 1832-1833; son of Thomas Ayer and Sarah Francis Malone Ayer; husband of Sarah Nunnary Ayer, Ann Kirkland Ayer, and Rebecca Erwin Ayer; father of Lewis M. Ayer, Jr., (1821-1895) and at least eight other children.
