Dial, Walter, 1931-
Walter Dial was born in 1931 in Charlotte, N.C. He grew up in the city's Third Ward. Dial attended Isabella Wyche School and Second Ward High School. After marrying and having two children, he was drafted into the army. Dial's desire was to go to medical school, but neither he nor his family had the money. After becoming a widower, Dial met and married Lillie Beatty, who has also contributed an oral history to this series.
