Benjamin Johnson enjoyed a successful career as a printer and book seller first in Reading, PA and later in Philadelphia. Among the items he and his partners issued were William Bartram's Travels, The Life of Benjamin Franklin, three books by William Penn, an edition of Aesop's fables, the Bible, a German language newspaper, and guides for surveyors and bookkeepers. Johnson was an active member of the Society of Friends. He and his wife, Jane, had 7 children between 1800 and 1809.
