Ivan L. Rudnytsky (1919-1984) was born in Vienna, completed his schooling Lviv (then a city in Poland) and subsequently studied history, law and international relations. After teaching at a number of American institutions, Dr. Rudnytsky came to the University of Alberta in 1971 to teach Ukrainian and east-central European history. He was one of the founders of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University.
