Turner, Thomas, Jr., 1795-1842

Thomas Turner, Jr., was born in Lansingburgh, New York, in November 1795, the son of Thomas Turner and Sarah Ketchum. On April 27, 1813, he was commissioned an ensign in the United States Army's 29th Infantry Regiment, and he served in northern New York, Vermont, and Québec throughout the war. Turner was a lieutenant in the New York Militia's 155th Regiment from 1817-1821, and was later promoted to major. He married Mary Ruggles Weld (1795-1862) on August 27, 1816, and they had eight children: Sarah Lois (1818-1838), Thomas (1820-1849), Harriet Corning (1822-1859), Horace Weld (b. 1825), Mary (b. 1827), Erastus Corning (1831-1833), Emma Rathbone (1834 or 1835-1866), and Joseph Weld (1839-1858). Thomas Turner, Jr., died in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, on April 6, 1842.
