John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine was born in Clifton on 29 March 1836. He succeeded his uncle to the Earldom in 1866. His uncle was John Francis Miller Erskine, 32nd Earl of Mar (1795-1866) who had also established a right to the Earldom of Kellie. John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine was the Representative Peer for Scotland 1886 to 1923. He held honorary degrees from Oxford and Cambridge. The Earldom of Mar is the premier one of Scotland, and the oldest one by descent. John Francis Erskine Goodeve-Erskine, 33rd Earl of Mar, died on 16 June 1930.
