Plant Railway System.
The Plant Railway System began in 1865 when Henry B. Plant started purchasing stock in Georgia and Florida railroads which had been thrust into financial ruin after the Civil War. The system, which linked many areas of Florida, initiated significant changes in the state's social, economic, and political conditions.
