Born in 1891, Shigeru Osawa was a restaurant owner in Seattle, Washington, who served as the Business Manager of "Minidoka Interlude," a publication of the Minidoka Relocation Center, which was one of ten camps in which Japanese Americans were interned during World War II. Osawa's father was an innkeeper in Japan before coming to America. His family settled in Seattle and opened up a restaurant at 116 Occidental in 1895. Under provisions of President Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, all persons of Japanese ancestry were moved from the West Coast of the United States and interned in camps. Minidoka housed about 7,000 Japanese Americans, predominantly from Oregon, Washington and Alaska.
