Desobry, William R. (William Robertson), 1918-
Variant namesWilliam R. Desobry was a United States Army officer who rose to rank of general. He was commander of Task Force Desobry, 10th Armored Division at Bastogne in the battle of the Bulge, became a German prisoner of war at the Belson Concentration Camp. After the war he was stationed in Europe during the era of the Pentomic Division, Gyroscope. He later became a senior advisor in the Mekong Delta (ca. 1966-1968) during the Vietnam War. He was a task force commander for the development of the XM-1 Abrams tank and was a commanding general of V Corps in 1973.
