Esterhazy, Count
Count Esterhazy was an attache at the Austrian legation in Paris in 1836-8 and subsequently served as the Austrian representative at Rome, 1848-56, and as minister without portfolio in the Austrian governments of Schmerling and Belcredi, 1860-6. He was a confidant of the Emperor Franz Joseph. William Cowper was private secretary to his uncle, Lord Melbourne, the British Prime Minister, from 1835 onwards.
