Stuart Hopps (b 1942) is a choreographer, director, teacher and educator. He has worked on many major productions with leading directors and producers including Peter Hall, Kenneth Branagh, Trevor Nunn, Ang Lee and Derek Jarman. He has choreographed for the English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera. He was the Founder Director of Scottish Ballet's Moveable Workshop. He has sat on numerous boards and committees including: Founder Chairman, Dance Panel, Greater London Arts Association 1976-1979; Chairman, British Association of Choreographers 1990-2000; Member Dance Panel, Arts Council of Great Britain 1976-1980; Member Accreditation Committee, Council for Dance Education and Training 1984-1993; and Chair, Schools Committee, Council for Education and Training 2000-2004. He has held numerous teaching posts including Senior Lecturer in Dance, Laban 1975-1978 and Director MA Studies Laban 1986-1989. In 2007 he received an Honorary Doctorate from City University and in 2009 a citation of Honour for Lifetime Achievement from Sarah Lawrence College, New York.
