Dr. William Pitt Riddell, born Oct. 1, 1828, was the younger brother of Dr. John Leonard Riddell, 1807-1867. He attended Yale College in the early 1850s, and received an M.D. degree from University of Louisiana in New Orleans in 1856. He moved to Texas, serving as Assistant State Geologist during the last gubernatorial administration of Gen. Sam Houston. He married into an influential family in Austin. He entered into Confederate service as physician and surgeon at the general hospital at Houston, and then continued to practice medicine after the war. He was killed in Houston in May 1872.
