Crawford, S. J. (Samuel Johnson), 1835-1913
Variant namesSamuel Johnson Crawford was the third governor of the State of Kansas, taking office January 9, 1865. He is the youngest man to have served as governor, being only 29 years old when elected. He resigned from office Nov. 4, 1868, in order to take command of the 19th Kansas Regiment. He died in Topeka, Kan., on Oct. 21, 1913.
