Wightman, William M. (William May), 1808-1882
Variant namesMethodist clergyman. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Wightman in 1840 became the editor of the "Southern Christian Advocate," a weekly newspaper devoted to the activities of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the South. In 1854 Wightman was chosen to be the president of Wofford College.
