Jeanne Manford, mother of gay rights activist Morty Manford, is best known as co-founder of the first support group for parents of gay children, Parents of Gays (POG), the predecessor of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).

The group first met in 1973, and by the early 1980s it had grown into a nation-wide organization fighting discrimination against gay people. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays is now a national educational, support and advocacy group with international affiliations working on behalf of the gay, lesbian, transgendered and bisexual community.
