Born at Watford City, N.D., son of Nils and Rebecca (Heide) Rolfsrud. Attended Minot State College, taught in rural schools, graduated from Concordia College in 1936. Wed Beverly Brown in 1941. Employed at North Dakota Education Association, and wrote a column "Top Drawer" for its Journal, North Dakota Teacher. Began teaching at Concordia College, leaving in 1946. Worked as freelance writer until 1957 when he began teaching at Alexandria, Minn.

Erling Rolfsrud was born in 1912 near Keene, N.D. He graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. and taught there until 1946. He became a writer of both fiction and non-fiction and wrote 31 books between 1949 and 1993. Most of his works related to the history and people of North Dakota. He later lived near Alexandria, Minn. and died in 1994.
